When you finish a book like The Empty Jar and not only feel drained at the enormity of the story but actually feel full of life at the same time, you know you've just read something epic. The author has given us a tale so beautifully poignant, I'm sitting here trying to catch my breath and absorb each and every emotion that has me reeling.

This is a journey through one woman's life. A life that is now threatened by a horrific diagnosis and the struggle in deciding what is best for her, her devoted husband and for a dream she thought she'd never get to experience. We are front and center as we get to witness every decision that Lena Grant will make, how it will affect her husband Nate and how each and every person in her life will react. It's as if we are right there with all of them every step of the way, holding back, wanting more time to make it all conclude happily.

The myriad of emotions I experienced is second to none. I am completely drained, my heart is a little bit broken but somehow my soul is full. If ever there was a story that could send my spirit soaring all the while tears are streaming down my face, then this is the one. The author bared her very being and gave us a part of her own personal experience with this book. The love of her Dad is evident throughout and I loved all the touching nighttime rituals she has included.

The Empty Jar is a book that has claimed me in the very best way and offered me a chance to remember to take time to smell the flowers, catch some lightning bugs and revel in the love that is family. I am grateful to have been able to read this powerful story and will not soon forget it.

Lena find out at age 40 that she has terminal stomach cancer. This devastated their lives, Nate leaves his job and takes his wife to Europe for 3 months. Knowing their time together is limited they travel, love and grieve. While in Italy Lena starts getting sick she thinks it's her cancer, but after a few days the nurse in her takes a pregnancy test . Yes, she is dying but pregnant with the child they always wanted. She decides to take no medication for her disease and try to leave her husband with a child. He supports her decision but knows it will cost her extreme pain and death. They have their Grace and Lena dies shortly after. This book was the hardest book I have ever read, it tore my heart out . It's a story of the deepest kind of love imaginable but also about death and survival. It's about faith and something better then life on earth. Days later I'm still heartbroken over the story.
From the moment she introduced me to Cash Davenport, M. Leighton has been one of my favorite authors. Each book she's written, I've enjoyed more than the last.

The Empty Jar is unlike any of the previous books written by this author. One thing is certain, this book will likely remain a favorite of mine for many years to come.

Lena and Nate have a love, so beautiful, you can't help but hope you will also experience that kind of love in your life. A five-star must read, The Empty Jar is a heartfelt, emotional journey, of love and sacrifice that will stay with me long after the last page has been read.

I’ve had this sitting on my TBR shelf since it’s release and I finally decided to open it up and read it. It’s now on my list of favorites. If I could give it six or even seven stars, I would.

In the midst of all the sadness contained within this novel, there was also so much joy and happiness. I read every word of this book, from the cover page to the links and I loved every word. From the beginning I knew I would need a whole lot of tissues. This book hit home for me because I too have watched events in my life happen in eerily similar ways; first with my father and again with my grandparents. It’s not easy, but moments shared are so precious and I cherish every one down to the last.

I recommend this book to anyone who doesn’t mind a good cry, a few laughs and an epic love story. You won’t regret the time spent reading it.

Note to the Author, M. Leighton; if you should ever read this I want to personally thank you for sharing your story with me. It touched me in ways I will never forget.
That is what I should say, as to not give away a single thing about this hauntingly beautiful book. Like others, I knew what I was getting into wasn't going to be pretty and I can blame it on PMS (check the date before reading), or the fact that the story hits close to home right now, however it's the writing. It's obvious the love poured into this couple page after page came straight from the heart.

It was almost like torture to keep reading the story of Lena and Nate. My mind was made up that I was going to learn about this couple and want nothing more than for her to not leave him. Ever. M. Leighton throws her readers the biggest curve ball ever and there's nothing you can do to stop reading.

Such a strong couple. They have faced adversity in the past and feel they are at peace with what the future brings them. Or as at peace as they can be in this situation. They continue to love like the day they first met. Not taking anything or anyone for granted.
