When the jury answers, Lewis will be vindicated, discredited, or completely overshadowed by the polarizing effects of the climate change debate. Her fate lies in the hands of her peers.

The format as it arrived on my kindle was very disrupting. There were gaps or spaces in the middle of words, sentences and paragraphs. A sentence would stop in the middle; there would be a three lines of space and then the text would start up again in the middle of a sentence without any relationship to the prior sentence and you wondered what had been left out in between. There was only one photograph that was whole and recognizable. The others were parts of photographs run together or just a very large 'L' in the middle of the page. I don't think I've ever seen anything so poorly printed. The story line held my interest for the most part. I would have liked to see the characters developed more fully and a little less descriptive environmental testimony in the middle.Product details

Very interesting and entertaining read. For fiction, it was full of great historically accurate information. Very timely subject as the Army Corps of Engineers and Katrina litigation are still in the news. The flow was well written and I very much enjoyed the back and forth, never letting you know which way the jury decision would fall until the very end.
This is such a fluid read which made it difficult to put down. I was definitely rooting for Major Lewis throughout the entire book. Although I’ve never been a participant in the judicial system, I felt as though I understood the intricacies and politics that influence the various parties involved and the overall decision of the court.
This book sheds light on some of the unspoken truths to the causes of Katrina that many have questioned, but few have written about so creatively.
The novel Katrina by Don Wittig is a good read based on a real event, Hurricane Katrina. The story flows well; it does a good job of tracking the effects of bad politics and personal biases on what should be engineering decisions by the Army Corps of Engineers. Engineering decisions should be about engineering, and political decisions should be about allocation of resources to solve or prevent problems like flooding. As we all know, too often decisions are made to not to help people but to favor certain companies or individuals. It’s how in the U.S. public money is stolen from the taxpayers.
I googled the author and found that he is an experienced lawyer, former district and appellate judge in Texas, which explains his command of court procedure. If you have ever wondered about how court battles are fought, judicial decisions made, and what lawyers do this is a good read with drama that's not stuffy or pedantic. I read the print edition and it is formatted properly.
Compelling prose from a new author who describes the courtroom scenes and the background with delicious detail. Many factual elements of the current trend to create public policy based on uncertainty and pseudoscience, rather than facts. An entertaining read - perfect for summer reading list!
